Also known as Cakes n Creams, they’re not only a staple among those who love 1950s-style diners, but also one of Branson’s busiest and most talked-about restaurants of any kind.
Lines of people often stretch into the parking lot, as eager guests wait to place their orders.
I've visited this restaurant many times over the years. Spoiler alert, I love the place. I'm a huge fan. One of the things that adds to their popularity is that they stay open late — after the Branson shows let out.
Owners John and Cristi Moore have been serving hearty diner food, incredible desserts, and family fun since 1981.
A Love Story and a Piece of Branson History
Cristi and John first met at the late Fun Spot Amusement Park when she was 13 and he was 16. "He was running the Tilt-A-Whirl and gave me and my friend a free ride because he thought I was cute," Cristi explained with a grin.
I asked John how Cakes-n-Creams got started, and he told me it all began with Cristi. "When I asked Cristi's father for her hand in marriage, he told me no. I was shocked."
John continued, "I asked why? He said, until you both start your own businesses I will not allow you to marry my daughter."
Cristi's father owned the very popular Garcia's Mexican Restaurant and loved his daughter very much.
So, in 1980 John opened Saloon Photos and Cristi opened Locksmiths Hair Designs.
John explained, "Saloon Photos was the first old-time photos business (other than at Silver Dollar City) in Branson."
John and Cristi were married in 1981 with her father's blessing.
John concluded, "We got married. It was the best thing her father could’ve ever done for me. He was a great man."
I'm kinda nosy, so I asked... Yes, Cristi still cuts John's hair, and has since those early days.
Cakes-n-Creams has undergone many changes over the years, always improving and expanding. This photo was taken many years ago.
