To many people, Branson shopping is kind of an event. It's a memorable, one-of-a-kind retail experience unlike generic malls and box stores in Anytown USA.
What sets Branson shopping apart?
A mix of locally owned businesses, historic landmarks, and specialty stores celebrating Ozark culture, food, and traditions.
While I have fondness for every store I mention below, my first real Branson shopping memory goes back to when I was around 11 years old and had fallen madly in love.
Without going into great detail, my story involves a cute little girl, a pricey bracelet and my parents forcing me to return it to The Original 76 Mall.
Since then, I've had thousands of shopping excursions that didn't end in tears and hurt feelings. Below is a list I consider well-rounded and a sample of the Branson shopping experience.
National chains, big-box stores, and malls all have their place.
My list highlights 10 stores that are especially worth a visit. If you think I left someone out, please let me know in the comments section at the bottom, and I'll consider them for a future article.
1. Dick’s 5 & 10: Branson’s Iconic Nostalgia Landmark
Few stores embody Branson like Dick’s Oldtime 5 & 10 in Historic Downtown Branson. Family-owned since 1961, this beloved landmark feels more like a living museum than a retail store.
Step inside to discover endless aisles packed with toys, puzzles, kitchen gadgets, collectibles, crafts, souvenirs, seasonal décor, nostalgic candy, and practical household items.
Overhead displays, historic memorabilia, and vintage-inspired goods spark childhood memories for adults while delighting kids.
Many visitors spend an hour or more wandering the 100+ year-old building with its original fixtures. It’s a true Branson tradition and one of the last classic five-and-dime stores in the U.S. Don’t miss it on your downtown stroll.
